Prof Toby Mottram, Founder and Chief Engineer, eCow Devon Ltd, Co-Founder of VirtualVet.
Toby is the founder of eCow and a prominent figure in the UK agricultural engineering sector holding the position of Douglas Bomford Trust Professor of Farm Mechanisation at the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester, where he teaches wireless sensor data capture and analysis in farm situations. During his career he has co-invented robotic milking, developed cow breath sampling, in-line milk progesterone analysis and in 2003 the rumen telemetry bolus. He has over 50 refereed publications and 20 patents. After Silsoe Research Institute closed in 2005 he continued development of the pH bolus eventually producing a commercially viable product which he has sold worldwide through eCow since 2011. The eCow eBolus provides continuous accurate data from within a cow’s rumen to aid farmers and researchers improve dairy cow management. In 2015 he was appointed BBSRC/Royal Society of Edinburgh Enterprise Fellow charged to develop a new business that will revolutionise dairy cow fertility. Since 2014 he has begun to develop ideas to integrate and digitise farm animal health data from multiple sources.
Sinead Quealy, Co-Founder and Managing Director of VirtualVet.
Sinead has over eight years of experience in managing software development projects, often with partners across the EU. From a farming background, she lives on a busy beef & dairy farm in Waterford, Ireland. Both roles have given her valuable insights in to how technology can be best deployed to meet the needs of all stakeholders in the agricultural industry, from farmers, through to vets, consumers, government agencies and industry suppliers. Sinead has a keen interest in strategy development, a PG-dip in Adult Education from University of Limerick and MBA from Waterford Institute of Technology.
Janet Bainbridge OBE , Non-Executive Director.
Janet Has Degree in medical Microbiology and a PhD in Biochemical Engineering .She has a Personal Chair and an OBE for Services to Science .Janet has both an extensive academic career and commercial experience in organisations from large multinational companies to SME’s and start-ups. She has been at the heart of UK and EU science policy for several decades via positions on the research Councils, Innovate UK and with DG Science in Brussels. She has worked extensively across the agri food chain and has Chaired several UKL Government Expert advisory and regulatory committees. Janet was a Board member of the British Potato Council, Chaired the R&D group, a founder member of the Agriculture and Horticulture development board (AHDB) and was a co-author of the UK Agricultural Strategy and CEO of the UKTI/DIT agricultural Technology Organisation (ATO) .As a specialist advisor covering Chemicals , medical devices, food and drink , and agri tech Janet has worked extensively with overseas companies to bring Inward Investment into the UK and with UK-based businesses to help them sell their goods and services abroad.
Janet is a member of the UK Synthetic Biology Leadership Council and currently holds several non-executive and Board Positions. She enjoys mentoring businesses and individuals and is an active mentor of several postgraduate students ; her passion is enabling innovators recognise and develop their ideas converting them into commercial reality.
Caitriona Lynch Walsh, Business Data Analyst at VirtualVet.
Caitriona has been involved in the roll-out of ICT skills training and education for more than 10 years. Her ability to engage with clients ensures the development of trusted relationships, encouraging the discovery of contextual information supporting quality data collection. Having recently completed her masters in Global Financial Information Systems she joined our VirtualVet team in May 2017. Driving data quality and consistency, she works closely with our farmers to ensure the most effective deployment of VirtualVet’s service. Her focus is on the development of timely and relevant data sets, accessible to the entire animal health and agri-food industries to serve their business intelligence needs.
Narjis Hasan, Data Research & Development Engineer.
Narjis has a background in software development, network engineering, electronics, data analysis and communication technology. She is an MSc in Global Financial Information Technology and has a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering. She has been working with VirtualVet since June 2017, planning, implementing and maintaining our infrastructure and technology stack. This includes the development of our technology roadmap with a focus on the extraction of information for our business intelligence clients. Narjis is also associate faculty for the National College of Ireland’s school of computing.
